![]() Maybe someone at your church service is thinking the same way I used to think. And it isn’t just between Jesus and Father God, but between you and Father God as well. In this scripture, you find true love between a father and son. The fact that the Father took joy and pride in me and that simply being myself was all I needed to do to feel loved was mind-blowing. I had never felt the way I did when I read this passage. “The Father Himself loveth you” was a cold shock to my system. What Jesus said in this scripture, however, was far from my incorrect belief. The only way that I could ever even come close to Him would be if I worked hard enough to please Him with my actions. For my whole life, I was convinced that God was an angry father. When I first discovered these verses it changed my world. This is one of my favorite scriptures of all time. “26 In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you 27 for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father…” The father in this story is a perfect reflection of God to His children, and this story is a must-have on Father’s Day. He didn’t hesitate to give him a kiss and hug on his return home and he never intended his son to slave away to earn back his place at the table. Though the son ran, and though the son practically spat on the face of his father, the father never stopped looking for the son. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.Īs we see here, the father is neither disappointed nor ashamed of his son. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’Ģ2 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with com passion for him he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.Ģ1 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father. However, after the son squandered his small fortune away, this is what he said…ġ8 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. That is crazy! It was a dishonor to his father, and yet, the father gave it anyway. The fact that the son even asked for his inheritance was like telling his father that he wished he was dead. This inheritance was meant only after the father’s death. The part I want to focus on is after the prodigal son leaves home with his inheritance. It’s a great story that is an awesome representation of the biblical father. I believe nearly every pastor has a story from their ministry experience that can be related to the prodigal son. This story is beautifully told by Jesus, depicting the journey of two sons and a father. ” It is a story that almost all Christians and even a lot of non-Christians are familiar with. The first passage of scripture is the story of “the prodigal son.
